How we review start pages
Comparison pages on this site use official product pages and store listings, record the check date, mark anything unverified as not listed, and state that Dayblaster is our product.
What this method is
This page describes the method already used on compare.html, best-start-pages-2026.html, and the vs pages (Bonjourr, Tabliss, Start Page HQ, MyStartPage, TickerTab, Momentum, start.me). It is not a new editorial process created for this article.
compare.html says: Dayblaster facts come from this site’s public pages and code. Competitor facts come from each product’s official site or official store listing, checked on 2026-10-09. Unverified items are marked “not listed.” Each comparison page lists its sources.
What we treat as a source
- The product’s official website and help or docs pages.
- The official Chrome Web Store listing (Overview, Details, Privacy) or Firefox Add-ons listing when a page links it.
- Dayblaster’s public pages (pricing, privacy, facts, kits, homepage guide) and the public code in this repository.
We do not treat forum posts, unofficial “chrome-stats” permission dumps, or invented user counts as sources. If a listing does not show a permissions list, we write “not shown on the listing.” That rule is applied on new tab extension privacy.
Check dates
The October 2026 comparison set records 2026-10-09 next to sources. Newer guides on this batch say “checked October 2026” next to each official URL. When a vendor page changes after that date, the table can be wrong until someone reads the source again. We do not keep a hidden score.
What we do not put in schema
These pages use Article and BreadcrumbList. They do not use Review or aggregateRating. We do not invent star ratings, testimonials, or traffic numbers. If a Chrome Web Store page shows a rating, that is the store’s figure, not a Dayblaster review score, and we do not copy it into JSON-LD.
Conflict of interest
Dayblaster is our product. On best-start-pages-2026.html it appears first, with a “Best overall” badge, and the page explains why in first-party terms (free tier, optional one-time $10 Pro, no required account, works as a homepage). That is an owned-product placement, not a claim that an independent lab ranked us first. vs pages still give a “choose them if / choose us if” split and mark Dayblaster fields that are not in the repo as not listed (including software license).
Free-tier Dayblaster pages may show ads and affiliate links. Pro removes ad banners. Affiliate links are disclosed on affiliate-disclosure.html.
How a vs page is built in practice
The October 2026 vs pages share one skeleton: a one-sentence answer, a feature table, a short “where they differ” section, two “choose if” paragraphs, a source list with dates, and a note about unverified cells. Price, account, platforms, news, markets, shortcuts, widgets and open source are the usual rows. If Bonjourr’s official site does not list a news feed, the cell says not listed. If TickerTab’s site marks a screener as not available yet, it is omitted from the shipping column.
Dayblaster rows are filled from pricing.html, the homepage guide, privacy.html, kits.html and the public code (widgets, news RSS, markets). That is the same rule as facts.html and llms.txt: unknowns are omitted rather than guessed. No page in that set claims a user count.
