A stock ticker on your new tab: what Dayblaster actually shows
Dayblaster’s public facts page lists major indices plus a local index by country. The live site pulls market data from Yahoo Finance. TickerTab is a Chrome market dashboard with watchlists and options; Dayblaster is a general start page with a simpler ticker.
Two lists in this project
The human-readable list is product facts (checked against the public site code on 9 October 2026). That page says the markets ticker includes S&P 500, NASDAQ Composite, Dow Jones, Nikkei 225, FTSE 100, CAC 40, DAX, SSE Composite and Euronext 100, plus a local index by country (for example TA-125 for Israel) and currency rates.
The same names appear in financial-service.js as GLOBAL_INDICES, with
LOCAL_MARKET_INDICES for country extras (TA-125, IBEX 35, FTSE MIB, S&P/TSX, ASX 200,
SMI, NIFTY 50, Bovespa, S&P/BMV IPC, and others). That file is the fallback list when the live
API is not used.
The homepage config sets economyApiUrl to /api/markets. The serverless
file api/markets.js currently fetches a shorter Yahoo Finance set: S&P 500, NASDAQ,
Dow Jones, Nikkei 225, FTSE 100, DAX, CAC 40, TA-125, USD/ILS, EUR/ILS, BTC, ETH and SOL. If a
symbol fetch fails, that file returns an indicative fallback value so the ticker still renders.
Those two lists are both in this repository. This page does not pretend they are identical. Facts.html describes the product’s intended index set. The API file is what the live fetch uses today.
Where the numbers come from
api/markets.js comments state that it pulls Yahoo Finance’s public chart endpoint
(no API key in the frontend), computes daily change, and always returns HTTP 200. Currency rows
link out to Google Finance. Index rows link to Yahoo Finance quote pages. News headlines on the
same start page come from Google News RSS through /api/news, which is a different bar.
The live ticker on the start page sits in the MARKETS bar next to NEWS. Values come from
/api/markets as described above.
Index table from product facts and frontend code
| Index | Listed on facts.html / GLOBAL_INDICES |
|---|---|
| S&P 500 | Yes |
| NASDAQ Composite | Yes |
| Dow Jones | Yes |
| Nikkei 225 | Yes |
| FTSE 100 | Yes |
| CAC 40 | Yes |
| DAX | Yes |
| SSE Composite | Yes |
| Euronext 100 | Yes |
| Local index by country (example: TA-125 in Israel) | Yes, on facts.html |
Currency rates are also listed on facts.html. The converter widget is separate from the ticker (facts.html: Currency Converter among addable widgets).
How this differs from TickerTab
Dayblaster vs TickerTab (sources checked 9 October 2026) uses TickerTab’s official site and Chrome Web Store listing. TickerTab is a Chrome new-tab market dashboard: indices, a personal watchlist, top movers, financial headlines, fundamentals and options chains. The listing names examples such as SPY, QQQ and BTC-USD, and says search is powered by Yahoo Search. A paid plan is not listed there.
Dayblaster is a general start page. Markets are one bar among shortcut zones, news and widgets. It is meant to work as a homepage in the browsers covered by the homepage guide, not only as a Chrome new-tab override. If you want a trading terminal in every Chrome tab, TickerTab’s official materials describe that job. If you want shortcuts plus a simpler index ticker, Dayblaster is the product this site maintains.
A Trader setup kit exists on kits.html (TradingView, Yahoo Finance, Investing.com, and others). That kit changes shortcuts. It does not turn Dayblaster into TickerTab.
What the ticker is not
It is not a brokerage. It does not place orders. facts.html does not list watchlists, options chains, fundamentals (P/E, margins, 52-week range) or a screener. Those TickerTab items were marked as listed on TickerTab’s official site in the 9 October 2026 comparison. Roadmap items on TickerTab’s site that were labelled as not available yet were not counted as shipping features on that page, and they are not counted here either.
It is also not delayed-quote legal advice. The API file uses Yahoo Finance’s public chart endpoint and falls back to hard-coded indicative numbers when a fetch fails. If you need exchange-grade data, use the exchange or a licensed terminal. Dayblaster’s ticker is a start-page summary.
Currency pairs in the API file (USD/ILS, EUR/ILS) reflect the operator location stated in Terms (Israel) more than a global default. financial-service.js maps many country codes to a local index and a local currency for the fallback path. The live API list is shorter. Refresh the facts page when the two files are next aligned.
Using the ticker as a homepage or new tab
Set https://www.dayblaster.com as the homepage to see the markets bar when you click
Home. A Chrome new-tab extension is required if you want that bar on every new tab. TickerTab’s
listing describes itself as a new-tab finance start page for Chrome only. Firefox, Safari and a
standalone web homepage are marked not listed on our TickerTab comparison.
Clicking an index in Dayblaster follows the link built in code (Yahoo Finance or Google Finance). That opens the vendor’s site. It does not open a Dayblaster trade ticket.
