Best new tab extensions for Chrome in 2026
Chrome's default new tab is a search box and eight thumbnails. A good new-tab extension turns that wasted space into something useful. Here are the best ones in 2026 — and how to install and remove them safely.
In Chrome, the new-tab page can only be changed by an extension — homepage and startup settings don't touch it. So the right question isn't "how do I set my new tab," it's "which new-tab extension fits how I work." These are the standouts.
Dayblaster Best for getting things done
A full start page: editable shortcut zones, live news and markets tickers, and built-in widgets (to-do, calculator, calendar, world clocks, timers). Loads instantly, works with no signup, and has an optional one-time Pro to remove ads. Best if you want your new tab to actually do things. It works as a homepage on any browser, and as a true new-tab replacement in Chrome via a lightweight extension.
Momentum Best for calm focus
A daily photo, a greeting and one focus for the day. Beautiful and serene; most extras (to-dos, integrations) need the paid Plus plan. Dayblaster vs Momentum →
Tabliss Best free minimalist
Open-source, free, gorgeous backgrounds and a few light widgets. Perfect if you want pretty and quiet with no account and no upsells.
Infinity New Tab Best icon grid
A speed-dial style grid of app icons plus weather, notes and to-dos, with cloud sync. Powerful but busy, and the best features sit behind a login and premium tier.
Toby Best for tab hoarders
Saves groups of tabs into visual collections you reopen in one click. Less a dashboard, more a cure for having 50 tabs open. See more alternatives →
